Robert Shapiro
Robert Shapiro is perhaps best known for his role in the ‘dream team.’ This crack team of criminal defense lawyers was responsible for the (ultimately successful) legal council of former American football star and actor O.J Simpson. Simpson was the prime (and only real) suspect in a horrendous double murder. The ‘dream team’ established a narrative of reasonable doubt that ensured Simpson escaped conviction. The case was one of the biggest cultural spectacles in modern American history.

Barack Obama
Before making history as the first African American president in the history of the United States, Barack Obama was a practicing attorney. In 1993, the young Obama joined the law firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. The firm specialized in civil rights litigation. Obama’s law license became inactive in 2008 – one year before his historic presidential victory.
Thurgood Marshall
Beginning his career in the mid 1930’s, Thurgood Marshall was one of the most influential figures in the legal fight for equal rights for African Americans. The most famous case taken on by Marshall was Brown vs Topeka Board Of Education (1954). This was a class-action civil suit started by black parents whose children were forced to go to segregated schools. In a landmark ruling, the judge closed proceedings by agreeing that segregated pupils could not receive an equal education.
Marshall later became the first African American supreme court justice. A truly trailblazing lawyer.
Cicero
Cicero is perhaps the most famous lawyer of all time. He was a true polymath. As well as his legal work, he did very important work in politics, philosophy, and linguistics. Cicero began practicing law around the age of 26 in about the year 83 BC. In his work as a lawyer, he took on difficult and daring cases. One of his most famous was the 80 BC defense of Sextus Roscius, who had been accused of Patricide. Cicero challenged the dictator Sulla by accusing his cronies of actually committing the crime. Cicero went on to have a huge influence on the education of lawyers, as well as on a great many legal and rhetorical concepts.
