Whether you wear t-shirt bras, strapless bras, or any other type of bra, you have likely dealt with bra fit issues. It seems that most women struggle with finding bras that fit perfectly, and that's because every body is unique, so it is nearly impossible for a manufacturer to produce a single bra that fits every woman perfectly.
Thankfully, many fit issues have easy fixes. You can use three tips to make adjustments to your bras or bra purchases and ensure you find a bra that fits just right.
1. Choose the Right Clasp
When you look at the clasp in the back or front of a bra, you will notice different groupings. Many women assume the three sets of eye clasps are to allow for different-sized ladies, which is incorrect.
The clasps help to negate the effects of natural material stretching over time. The feature ensures the bra offers support throughout its lifespan.
You want to buy a bra that fits firmly and comfortably on the loosest setting, the one closest to the end. As the bra stretches, you can adjust the clasp to tighter settings.
Remember, most of the support from a bra comes from the band. If you purchase a bra that isn't firm on the loosest setting, you are cutting the lifespan and usefulness of the bra significantly.
2. Tighten the Straps
One of the most common bra fit issues is straps either sliding off the shoulders or digging into the skin. You need to adjust the straps to ensure a proper and comfortable fit.
To loosen or tighten the bra straps, you want to locate the metal or plastic slide adjuster. The adjusters are usually in the back of the bra near the hooks.
If the straps are too tight, loosen them as much as possible before putting the bra on. Once you loosen the straps, hold the slide adjuster in one hand and pull the strap away from it. You will move the back part of the strap toward the bra cup. Do this for the other side as well. With both sides adjusted, put the bra on to make any minor adjustments.
If the adjustments do not work and the straps are still digging in or falling down, it may be time to remeasure your cup and band sizes and find a bra with a better fit. Straps can lose elasticity over time and bodies can change shape.
3. Resize Your Bra
Sometimes, the best way to adjust your bra is to replace it. Learning how to measure bra size with an equation is likely the best solution to finding a bra with a proper fit.
If you have a favorite bra that no longer fits the way it once did, stop trying to make it work. Put it aside and find a new bra to take its place.
