How to Practice Gratitude Everyday

Essentially, gratitude is recognition and appreciation for the superior things in life. It deals with the bright side, no matter how small the blessings may be. Gratitude is powerful; it changes ordinary moments of human existence into fulfilling and meaningful times. It is like the gentle warmth of the morning sun, a disarming smile from a stranger, or even a small victory in a Baccarat game.


Gratefulness even allows that awareness to shift our mindset from negative to positive. Many people relate gratitude to uttering the words "thank you." While that politeness is good, gratitude goes far beyond that. It is a person's conscious choice to value people, moments, or experiences.

Practicing Gratitude

Small, more conscious acts of appreciation are often the most powerful. Appreciation happens through small things, such as a cup of coffee in the morning or even a kind word from a working colleague.

Journal Writing

What I love about our Prayer Meeting Night is that it is also a time for Thanksgiving. Every time I attend this service, I share what God has done to me the entire week. Call me weird, but I write everything in my gratitude journal. Gratitude journaling is a great exercise. Each day, write down three things you feel thankful for. They don't have to be big things; they can be a good cup of coffee your workmate made for you or a spontaneous conversation with someone. 

Express Appreciation

It might be challenging for someone whose language differs from Word of Affirmation. Why not kick off with a simple "Thanks" or a pat on the back of someone you're thankful for? It can be that sweet smile toward a stranger or a fancy card that touches the heart. We do not know how these things can change other people's perspectives on life.

Reflect on the Setbacks

Sometimes, we are on cloud nine; other days, we are down in the dumps. When anything is wrong, it's always better to find something related to it for which you can be thankful. It is not about denying problems when they arise but about looking for lessons or growing possibilities from adversity.

Appreciate Small Wins

Consider everything a small win—from being in control not to using your phone while charging to winning a round in an online game or waking up early in the morning. There are so many things for which we can be grateful. No wonder story sharing on Instagram is the most used feature of the time because we can constantly flex our small victories and bless others with it.

Gratitude shows the silver lining of every dark cloud, letting you know there is always something to be grateful for, even on your craziest day. Such a mindset also amends and reinforces one's ability to face ups and downs. It enriches our well-being through the most ordinary means, from journaling to appreciating small wins.
